Two years old with hydrocephalus. In a
country where many children are malnourished and run barefoot. Good
medical help for his condition was nonexistent. This is
Nyenelleh’s story.
On a trip to Liberia, while visiting
children in our foster homes, I met Nyenelleh whose name means, “Since
God is my help.” He had hydrocephalus and without urgent medical
attention he would die. His dire situation gripped me. I HAD to
do something.
Since the fall of last year, my
colleagues and I worked tirelessly to bring Nyenelleh to the States to
get the surgery he desperately needed. In order for Nyenelleh to come
to the States, we made a promise to the Ministries of Health and Justice
in Liberia that we would bring him back after his surgery. Working with
Children’s Medical Missions and Global Orphan Outreach, Nyenelleh was
offered free surgery, hospital and foster care in Lima, OH. We had the
medical help and a ladies group paid for his plane ticket to America.
But getting him a visa was no easy task.
I made a trip to Liberia to gain the
necessary documents for Nye’s release to come to the States. Time after
time I had the documents ready only to be told there was something else
I needed. After gaining the new documentation and presenting it, the
same thing happened. I was at a loss. A week in Liberia was wasted, I
felt. My colleague Linda also made a trip, but her efforts were
thwarted as well.
At long last, Liberia accepted the
documentation and Nyenelleh was given the release on a medical visa. In
July he had a successful surgery and is recovering well!
It has now come time for me to take
Nyenelleh back to Liberia. This little boy has brought so much joy into
the lives of all who have come into contact with him. You should see
the way he smiles now; it brings a smile to my face and deep gratitude
to God for allowing this to happen.
Returning Nyenelleh as promised will be
costly--nearly $3,000 for our tickets. We have used up emergency
reserves caring for all the children God has entrusted to us. If God
burdens your heart to help return Nyenelleh, it would be a huge
blessing. Lord willing, we will leave on October 29.

Thank you,
Jim Geurink,
President
Nyenelleh
Returns to Liberia
Thank you for your prayers for a safe return trip to Liberia for
Nyenelleh. On October 29 Jim Geurink and Nyenelleh boarded a plane
bound for Liberia. God provided an overall great trip and Nyenelleh is
back with his foster family in Liberia. Nyenelleh came to the states
this summer and received free surgery. Many, many thanks to Global
Orphan Outreach and Children’s Medical Mission for partnering with BCH
in getting Nyenelleh his surgery at no cost. Thanks to his surgeons,
nurses and US foster parents. Special thanks to all the BCH friends who
gave so that Jim and Nye’s trip back to Monrovia were fully funded! And
the greatest thanks to our loving Heavenly Father who orchestrated it
all. Nyenelleh’s name means, “since God is on my side.” God has truly
shown Himself to be all powerful and most definitely to be on
Nyenelleh’s side.
